The right coaches can make or break your gym
If I asked you the names of your top three candidates to be your next coach, could you do it?
Do you know what attributes you want in your next coach?
Where will you look: among your existing members, or outside your box community? Knowing the answer to these questions is essential. It is important to always be looking for potential coaches, and to build that pipeline of talent. You never know when one of your top coaches may leave, and you should always be prepared for growth.
Below is my short list of qualities I look for in a potential coach:
- Would I want to hang out with this candidate outside of work? I’ll be spending a great deal of time working with this person. I want to make sure I enjoy being around him/her.
- Does this candidate have a strong presence within our tight community? It is vital that our coaches mix well with our group. The candidate should be friendly and outgoing.
- A healthy ego is fine. An inflated ego is not.
- Does the candidate have a passion to learn, and to share that knowledge with others? Many of our veteran members will help our newer members; they read other Affiliate blogs, books, etc. I want my coaches to always be learning and developing their skills.
If you don’t have an answer to my first question, you should start giving it some thought.
