Remember those days when you were on your PC, typing diligently in Word, and the program or your PC crashed?
If you had forgotten to save your work from the past few hours, it was gone forever. That is a frustrating moment, to say the least, and one where we’ve all been. Wasting time is never fun, especially when you know it could have been avoided.
Did you know that your website should be backed up on a regular basis?
Maybe you never thought about it, but what would happen if your site crashed and all those days of posting to your Daily WOD blog with images, comments, etc. were gone? That is not the time to think about how you wished you would have backed up your site. The time to set up a backup plan is now, before it goes down – right? Your website host does NOT automatically back up your site for you. No one does. Backing up your site on a regular basis is actually easier than you think. There are many WordPress plugins available to help make this a simple process. Pressbackup is a solid, free WordPress backup plugin that we recommend to Affiliates. It is easy to install and setup. Our recommendation is to setup a free Dropbox account, where you can store your saved backup files. It is always a good idea to store your backup files somewhere other than the server where your website resides.
Here are the steps to take to ensure your site is backed up properly:
- Setup a free Dropbox account to store your website backup files. Click here for the link >>
- Login to the Admin backend of your WordPress website
- Go to Plugins and click on add new
- Search for “Pressbackup”, then click install now and activate plugin.
- Go to “Settings/Pressbackup Settings”
- Click on “Free Stuff”, then select the “Dropbox” option, click next
- You will be directed to a Dropbox window (make sure you are logged in) and click “Allow”
- Now you will have the different settings to choose for your backup. We recommend just leaving all options checked, but set your backup to be weekly and also store no more than 3 or 5 copies.
- Ahhh. Now you can rest, knowing your site has been backed up properly.
Hopefully you will never need to restore a broken site, but if you do, you have covered all your bases. Sleep well tonight!
